My name is Mara Dower and I'm a proud mother of a beautiful daughter named Kiannah. I had a home-water birth back in 2005 – which was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever encountered. Having it at home made it even more special. I had an amazing and easy pregnancy with only a sciatic backache that lasted one week after my first trimester. I then had a wonderful labour of approximately 6 hours. It couldn't have been more perfect.
It might have been 'luck' but I feel that my background, knowledge and preparation certainly assisted with my easy pregnancy and labour. And as you can see, I have a beautiful and healthy little girl.
Besides my experience in the corporate sector, I have a Shiatsu Japanese Massage Diploma, level 2 Reiki, aromatherapy knowledge, various other holistic practices with body energetics, shamanic practices and other forms of energy work. I’m also an experienced lifestyle educator with my own business called Born 2 Rock.
I am now combining the two areas that I'm passionate about – using self-empowerment, lifestyle skills and holistic practices to assist women during pregnancy and through their birthing journey.
Every woman has a right to choose their childbirth and I have no intention in telling women what to do or how to birth and this is not what this website is about. You can never predict your pregnancy or labour; however, if you’re well prepared with knowledge, health and a well balanced mind you will feel more empowered with the choices you make during these times.
In November I’m launching my first e-book. I’m in the process of interviewing a number of various professionals regarding birthing naturally (both in a hospital and at home) and discussing what women can do to assist with an easier pregnancy and labour, including what to do when your birthing plan doesn’t go as intentioned.
After the launch I’ll be working on having information, links, resources available to women around childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting, sleeping babies, products and services for parents/babies etc. This process will take a while and will be about forming relationships with the global community.
Childbirthmagic.com will be about informing and empowering women in the sense that there's infinite possibilities out there to assist you on your birthing journey, and I'd like to present some of those options. I'd like to provide some tools, guidance and assistance that you can either take on board for yourself, or choose not... knowing whatever you choose for your birth is just that - a choice (no judgement parted). Every birthing experience is just a learning curve to our deeper selves.
